Red My Lips

Hello Fashionistas!

I hope that you all enjoyed your Christmas! :-)

Now that Christmas is coming to a close, I know that many of you are getting ready for New Year's Eve.  By New Year's Eve being on a Friday this year, I can only imagine the events you all have to attend!  Well, don't worry because I'm here to provide another tip on how to sparkle throughout this holiday season and trust me, this tip will add some sexiness to complete your New Year's Eve look.

Now...  Anyone who knows me, knows I love...L-O-V-E...red lipstick.  I love bright red all the way to deep red, matte to shiny.  I have always thought of red as a beautiful color for all skin tones.  Red is not only timeless and classic, but sophisticated.  A red lip can truly complete your look AND make your smile appear whiter.  [There's been studies on this fashionistas!]  Red lipstick is a beauty must-have!

I have several red lipsticks and glosses on my vanity, but I have chosen three of my favorites to share with you all.  I have chosen these three because they are not only long lasting, but also easily accessible and not too expensive.  I also have taken a few photos of them on my lips so you can get a feel for them.  [Note:  My flash was on.]

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.  Revlon Matte Lipstick - Strawberry Suede  ($7)
[Rite Aid or Any Local Drugstore]

I recently purchased this lipstick during a BOGO event.  I am in love with this lipstick!  Not only is it affordable, but it lasts a long time on your lips.  The matte texture allows it to adhere and stay longer on your lips.  Also, this is not a shockingly bright red.  Due to the flash, it came off as a pinkish color.  In natural lighting, it's a lighter red.  This can be worn to the office or out.  [Note:  I recommend applying lip balm before this lipstick.]

2.  mark Gloss Gorgeous Stay On Lip Stain - Lolli  ($9)
           [Local Avon Representative OR http://www.avon.com/]

Before purchasing this lip stain, I had never really used a lip stain before.  I had seen several commercials for lip stains, but never really tried them because they appeared to be dry on the lips.  I saw this advertised in a Mark by Avon book and was intrigued by the description.  The description stated that the lip stain starts out glossy and then turns into a long lasting stain.  I decided to give it a whirl and I'm glad I did.  This lip stain is awesome!  It does exactly like I described and it's won many beauty awards from magazines.  This lipstick is perfect for when you're on the go and don't have time to constantly re-apply lipstick.  Plus, it's very soothing to the lips...something we ALL need in winter!  Can be worn to the office or out.  [Note:  Due to the flash, it appears to have more of a pink hue, but it's more of a lighter red and becomes darker as the gloss fades.]

3.  MAC Dare to Wear LipGlass - Bold & Brash (Varies)
[No longer available through MAC -- Try http://www.ebay.com/]

Now you all KNOW I loves me some MAC!  Yes!  I have been a MAC fan since early college and that's because MAC has some of the best products!  One thing I've always loved about MAC are their lipglasses.  Talk about AWESOMENESS!  I was introduced to this little tube in particular back in August.  The formula of this is supposed to be like a lip gloss; however, it's thicker so it lasts longer.  This lip gloss is simply gorgeous and I've never seen any red like this before.  This red is more of a deeper color with sparkles.  The sparkles are not frosty so it's very wearable without being too bright.  This lipstick is perfect for going out or date night.  Not very suitable for the office.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If any of you all are wondering, I did not use a lip pencil for any of the photos.  I usually don't use one, but if I do, I use MAC's lip pencil in Redd.  [Not a typo, haha!]

As always, if you all have any questions or comments, please write me!  Thanks for reading & God bless!

Ring It In

Hello Fashionistas!

Thanks for returning to my blog.  I hope that you enjoyed my first posting last week.

Since the holidays are here, I wanted to focus on giving you tips to shine for any event. Last week, I talked about giving your fingertips a little sparkle and now I want to focus on really making a statement.

One of my favorite ways of making a statement is by wearing... statement jewelry!  Now for those that may be wondering, "What is statement jewelry?"  It is a bold piece of jewelry designed to stand out and indeed "make a statement."  Most of the time, statement jewelry comes in the form of a necklace, ring or earrings.  My favorite piece of statement jewelry are rings and this season, a statement ring can really pull your outfit together, look sophisticated and make you sparkle throughout the holidays.

Here are a few examples of statement rings:

Both rings are costume.  Costume jewelry is less expensive so you can afford to have more pieces.

**One key bit of advice is that when you purchase costume rings, before wearing, paint the band of the ring with clear nail polish.  This will prevent the color of the band from fading and leaving the a mark around your finger.

Where to buy?

The first ring was purchased at a jewelry party for $10.  [For one of a kind pieces like this and other jewelry, please contact Farrah at miller.farrah@yahoo.com.]

The second ring is available at Forever 21 in stores or at www.forever21.com for less than $5[Note:  Forever 21 has FREE shipping for all orders over $50!]

Bling, Bling

Hello Fashionistas!

I'm back as promised with my first blog.  I have so many ideas that I could give you all, but since the holidays are right around the corner, I feel my first few blogs should be focused on looking fabulous for the holidays.  I'm sure we all have dinners, parties and socials coming up within the next few weeks and I surely hope that the next few blogs will help you prepare for them.  :-)

This holiday, I think the focus should be on shine...or shall I say, BLING BLING.  You want to be able to stand out within the crowd and really sparkle.  One quick and easy way to shine this holiday is play up your nails.  You can play up your nail color this holiday and really have fun.

So I'm sure you fashionistas may be wondering, "So...nail color...okay, but WHAT color?"  I definitely have a few favorites to share with you.  This holiday I really feel that the following colors are HOT:  ruby red, glittery gold and silver.  All three of these colors are eye catching and not only that, go with any skin tone.  Now to make it even better, I've found a kit that has all three colors [along with three others] inside it!

Sephora by Opi Mini Collection - $22

I found this little set a few weeks ago while I was in Sephora.  I was searching for the popular new nail color called "Looks Like Rain Dear" [glittery gold] when I learned they were sold out at the time.  They showed me this mini collection instead and trust me, this was a better investment.

Now like I said earlier, this set has ALL THREE of the hot, holiday shades.  Not only that, but it also has three additional colors.  Here are the colors in this collection [from left to right]:

  1. Dear Diary [light pink]
  2. Still Shopping!  [silver]
  3. Looks Like Rain Dear  [glittery gold]
  4. Sample Sale  [red]
  5. Teal We Meet Again  [teal]
  6. Just A Little Dangerous  [purple]
As I listed below, this set is $22.  These are mini bottles, but honestly, you only use a small portion of the nail polish when you use it so these would last you for awhile.  Also, this collection is by Opi which is a very popular nail polish brand that is found in literally every nail salon.  This is good quality stuff people!

Now for those ladies who are apprehensive...  "I don't know.  I hate when my nail polish chips."  OR...  "I just don't have time to paint my nails."  DON'T WORRY!  I got you...

This is my routine:

  1. Prep nails by applying a good base coat.  [Any base coat is fine...even regular, clear polish!]
  2. Apply two coats of desired nail color.
  3. Finish by applying TWO coats of Sally Hansen's Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat.
I honestly live by the Insta-Dri top coat.  Once you apply the second coat, your nails should be dry.   Also, with a good top coat, your nail color can last up to a week.  Sounds just like getting a professional manicure huh?

Welcome!

Hello everyone & Welcome to my blog!

Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog.  My name is Miss Ellis.  [Not just a blog name.  Everyone really calls me that.]  I'm very excited about starting my blog again.  I used to blog over a year ago, but due to time restraints, I stopped.  I'm now back with a new name and fresh ideas.

I really wanted to take the time to create a blog that centers around beauty and fashion.  I know there are so many blogs out there that already focus on these two elements, but I'm bringing them to you from a fresh and affordable standpoint.  Anyone who knows me knows that fashion is one of the loves of my life.  Also, not only do I love it, but I'm also representing for the plus size ladies (size 12+).  :-)

The goal of my blog is to let you know about fresh new trends, tips I may have and ideas that can save you money. I hope that you will enjoy what I have in store!
