Product Monday: My Top Five MAC Lip Liners

Hello Beauties!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Even though I worked a lot during my Thanksgiving break, I was thankful to have time to spend with my family.

Today's Product Monday is going to be just a little different.  I wanted to highlight my favorite brand of lip liners, which is MAC.  I have been using MAC's lip liners since mid-college and although I have drifted away from many of my once-coveted MAC products, this is one I simply will not and cannot shake.

A lot of bloggers have done comparisons between NYX and MAC lip liners.  I did that comparison myself around a year ago and NYX does not even compare to MAC's longevity.  MAC's lip liners have more of a dry, matte form that allow them to stay on your lips for hours.  It is the perfect liner for those who work 8-5 like myself or simply do not have time to re-apply makeup throughout the day.  This is the perfect way to make any lipstick or gloss LAST.

Below are my top five MAC lip liners:

(Top - Bottom):  Chestnut, Oak, Magenta, Plum & Redd

(Left to Right):  Redd, Plum, Magenta, Oak, & Chestnut
What colors can I pair these lip liners with?
  • Oak - This is the best nude colored lip pencil I have ever used.  This is ideal for nude shades.  It goes great with Mark by Avon's Bare Hug lipstick.
  • Chestnut - This is the first of the liners that I ever owned.  This is the perfect liner to go with lip gloss.  I enjoy using it with MAC's lipgelee in Straight to the Head.
Cost:  $14

Where to Buy:  MAC in-store or online

Do you own any of MAC's lip liners?  Do you like NYX's lip liners better?

Thanks for reading & God bless!

Thrifting: How I Wore It

Hello Beauties!

I have had a hectic schedule over the past few weeks, but I wanted to take the time to do two things.  First, let me say to you all...  Happy Thanksgiving!  I pray you all have a wonderful holiday.  We all have so much to be thankful for.

I am thankful personally for God allowing His favor in my life and blessing me to not only make a move back to a bigger city but blessing me to have a great career change since last year. Being able to work in an area you are passionate about is a blessing.

The other topic I wanted to discuss is thrifting.  Recently, I was able to take a trip to Charlotte where I had an awesome adventure in thrifting.  I was able to pick up some great pieces and recently I wore two of my favorite (and cheapest) finds.  Take a look...

Talbots Sweater - $1.50

Dress - $3.50
After having the sweater dry cleaned (...it's wool) and washing the dress, I was finally able to wear them.

[Note:  Forgive my awful pictures!!]

Dress - GAP / Necklace - Its Fashion Metro

Belt & Vest - Forever 21

I think accessories can really dress up any outfit!  Thanks for reading & have a wonderful holiday.  God bless!

Product Monday: Wet & Wild Mega Last Lip Color Review

Hello Beauties!

I hope you all are doing well and had a great day.  As you all know, I am constantly looking for affordable, quality products and last week, I discovered a product that peaked my interest.  I was reading A Little Bit of Lacquer's blog when she mentioned Wet & Wild's Mega Last Lip Color.  I have heard many positive comments on Wet & Wild's eye shadow palettes, but not much on their lip products.  Since I know Wet & Wild products are affordable, I figured...  Why not try it?

Let's take a look:

918D - Cherry Bomb, 906D - Wine Room, 916D - Ravin' Raisin, 902C - Bare It All, 909D - Carol-ine

[Note:  Sorry I don't have these in order.]

Cost:  Around $3

Where To Buy:  Your Local Drugstore

(L - R) 918D - Cherry Bomb, 906D - Wine Room, 916D - Ravin' Raisin, 902C - Bare It All, 909D - Carol-ine
Colors

918D - Cherry Bomb:  It is a dark red, almost plum shade.

906D - Wine Room:  It appears to be a dark pink to almost a reddish color.

916D - Ravin' Raisin:  It is a lighter purple shade.  It isn't quite plum.

902C - Bare It All:  This is a nude shade with no pink undertone.

909D - Carol-ine:  This is a red, orange shade.

Wearing Cherry Bomb

Wearing Ravin' Raisin
Pros
  • Affordable
  • Lasts up to four hours
  • Smooth, matte finish
Cons
  • Requires re-application throughout the day (lasts longer with lip liner)
  • Once you remove the plastic, all that is left is the numbering system on the bottom.  You lose the name of the lipstick.
Overall, I like these lipsticks.  Due to a sale at Rite Aid, I actually went and purchased more of these and got them for only $1.79 a piece.  They are great for a night out, event or even office wear; however, if I need something that truly lasts all day though, I would rather pick up my Sephora Ultra Vinyl Lip Pencil instead.

Have you all tried these?  Would you try them?

Thrifting: Charlotte, NC

Hello Beauties!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  Since I had a three day weekend, I traveled to Charlotte, NC to enjoy a mini vacation.  From tasting the infamous Mert's Soul Food in Uptown to sight seeing...  It was a great time.  On Saturday, I dedicated most of the day to one of my favorite past times... Thrifting!

Thrifting is a great way to save money, look great and find one of a kind pieces.  The key to thrifting is seeing the possibilities in a piece.  For example, you may find a striped blazer.  It seems plain; however, you can take it and wear it with a pencil skirt, dress pants, skinny jeans and even leggings!

Before my trip, I did some research and found that Central Avenue in Charlotte has some great thrift stores.  Check out some of the great buys I found:

Salvation Army

Talbots Sweater - ONLY $1.50

$3.99

$3.99

$1.99

Carolina Value Village

$3.50

$3.50

$2.50

$3.50

Hong Kong Thrift Store

$16

Buffalo Exchange

$7

I absolutely loved thrifting in Charlotte.  I can't wait to go back in the future.  The Salvation Army and Carolina Value Village were surprisingly great places to find buys.  I was impressed and since both are chains, I will be looking for the closest ones near me.

The Hong Kong Thrift Store is a great place for one a kind pieces.  The prices are higher than most thrift stores; however, their items were in fabulous condition and they had some of the most unique items I had ever seen.

Lastly, the Buffalo Exchange was actually similar to Plato's Closet.  You can sell clothing there as well as purchase.  They also sell brand new items there.  The prices again were higher than a typical thrift store; however, they had good, quality items and a fun atmosphere.

If you are in North Carolina, be sure to share your favorite thrift stores!  God bless!

Fashion Trend: Accessorizing Your Wrist

Hello Beauties!

Happy Friday Eve!  Lately I have been thinking a lot about the direction I want my blog to go in.  You all know I love all things beauty and of course, natural hair; however, I do want to try and incorporate more fashion into the blog because fashion is a love of mine as well.

I recently saw a trend that I am really loving.  I love to accessorize and years ago I loved piling on the bangles.  I had taken a step away from that for awhile, but I recently saw Closet Confection's blog and I loved the way she styled her bracelets and watch.  She basically put her watch, bangles and link bracelet all on one wrist.  I fell in love with the look.

Although this may not be new to all of you, doesn't it seem fun?  Plus, it's a beautiful way to dress up a t-shirt and jeans or add extra pretty to an elegant outfit.

Here are a few pictures of how I wore the look:

What do you think?  How do you like to wear your accessories?

Product Monday: L'Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara Review

Hello Beauties!

I apologize for being gone so long.  It wasn't my intention to take a break, but life caught up to me.  I'm glad to be back and I have definitely missed blogging during the past two weeks.

This past weekend I was able to finally get my hands on a new product!  I'm sure we have all seen the beautiful Gwen Stefani commerical with the L'Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara.  When I saw the commercial, I was immediately intrigued because I love mascara, her lashes looked fabulous and quite frankly, L'Oreal is one of the best drugstore brands in my opinion.  After going to CVS and buying the wrong one, returning it and FINALLY getting the right one...LOL...here I am.

Check it out...

I was surprised that this brush didn't have defining bristles; however, I like the brush because it's not huge and it actually gives buildable coverage.  With two coats, my lashes were long and defined.

[Note:  I apologize for the pictures not being clearer.  Hard to take photos of lashes.]

Pros
  • Creates defined & long lashes
  • Comes in a Waterproof version
  • Easily removes with soap & water
  • Affordable - Less than $10
Cons
  • May smudge if not waterproof
Overall, I would highly recommend this mascara.  It really enhanced my lashes and made them look long.  I was impressed and rarely am I impressed with mascaras.  If you can get your hands on this, I highly recommend purchasing.

Since I am on the topic of mascaras, what are some of your favorite brands?

Thanks for reading & God bless!
