One Year Natural Hair Anniversary!

Hello Beauties!

As many of you may know from Facebook or Twitter, yesterday was my one year natural hair anniversary!  This is a major mark in the natural hair community.  Many times the first year can be very trying and difficult.

My Story

Many times women are asked why they chose to go natural.  My story is a bit unique.  I was natural for over 22 years before experimenting with my hair.  I chose to get a keratin treatment in 2010.  Many will argue that a keratin treatment is not a relaxer.  In theory, it isn't, but it has many of the same effects.  I got the treatment with the intentions of my hair being able to stay straighter longer and with less frizz.  I did not realize that it would take away every curl I had.

My Choice

I chose to transition for five months.  I transitioned from October 2010 to February 2011.  I cut off my keratin treated hair and initially rocked a short, blowed out look.  In the end, I opted for my natural locks.

My Transition

Below are pictures from the big chop to today.

Branching Out: Facebook

Hello Beauties!

I hope you all are having a fabulous weekend.  I wanted to let you know that I felt compelled to do some more branching out with my blog.  I decided to create a Facebook page for the blog.  At times, when I'm on the go, I do not always have the opportunity to blog, but I have instant access to Facebook and Twitter.  I welcome you to check out my Facebook page and/or follow me on Twitter.

Product Review: ZOYA Nail Polishes (Dree & Sunny)

Hello Beauties!

Today I wanted to do a review of the long-awaited ZOYA nail polishes I received a few weeks ago.  As you may know from a previous post, ZOYA was giving away two bottles of nail polish for free.  All you had to pay was the shipping, which was $6.95.  Since each polish is $8, this meant a savings of $16.  I had heard rants and raves of this brand so I felt it would be a great opportunity to try it out for myself.

For those of you who may not have heard of the brand ZOYA, this brand is popular for several reasons including the fact that it is formaldehyde-free, vegan friendly and long-wearing.  They also have over 300 shades of nail polish.  (Crazy, right?)

After scouring their website, I chose the colors Dree & Sunny.

2/13 - 2/17: The Busy Week!

Hello Beauties!

I have missed blogging over the past week.  Last week was a very, very, VERY busy week for me.  I have certainly come to the conclusion that working two jobs needs to end soon.  I am hoping it won't last too much longer, prayerfully.  I wanted to do a post today to highlight some fun points throughout my crazy week.

Valentine's Day

This year I did not have a valentine (no worries!) but I still took advantage of an extra special day to wear pinks and reds.  Instead of wearing pinks and red the traditional way, I opted for a pink lip and pink/red nails.

Tagged!

Hello Beauties!

One of the best things about being a part of the blog world is the friendship you develop with so many other bloggers.  I have come to know and admire so many of you and even though I haven't met any of you, I feel like I have known some of you for years.

I was recently tagged by Nic at Nic's Picks to do a survey.  I think this is fun and a great way to get to know each other.

Check out my answers:

1.  Your dream vacation?
Typically I think someone would say some type of beach, but my dream vacation would be to a place like London.  They are so ahead of the United States in areas of fashion.  Plus I have always wanted to visit Primark.  :-)

2.  Where are you from/Where do you live?
I was born in DC, but raised in North Carolina.  I still currently live in North Carolina.

OOTD: Walmart Chic

Hello Beauties!

I hope that you all are having a wonderful day.  I was thinking about something earlier and wanted to share...  Have you all noticed that thrifting is now the new popular thing?  I know many of us have been thrifting for years, but it seems that many people have finally caught on to what all the hype is about.  I choose to thrift for two main reasons:

1.  I am a fan of older patterns and staples.
2.  To save money.

When it comes to wanting to spend your money wisely, thrifting is a great way to do so.  Also, I have heard many fashion experts say to shop your closet.  Instead of running out to buy something, take a look at your closet and see how you can rearrange an outfit or find an item you haven't worn in awhile.

I am striving to spend my money wisely when it comes to clothing so I decided to shop my closet.  In my closet, I found a sheer shirt I purchased from Walmart over a year ago from the Miley Cyrus line they once had.

This is how I wore it (...I know you all love my camera photos, LOL):

Product Monday: Jordana FabuBrow Eyebrow Pencil

Hello Beauties!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  My weekend was great.  I went home to spend time with my mother and church family.  I also picked up a few goodies from Walgreens while I was home.  One of those goodies prompted me to do this review today.  I originally wanted to touch on my ZOYA nail polish I finally received last weekend, but I will save that for a future post.

The goodie that sparked my interest today is the Jordana FabuBrow Eyebrow Pencil.  Honestly, I haven't used a Jordana product since high school.  In fact, I had forgotten about the brand until I saw some of their products recently in the blogosphere.  Since I was home, I decided to visit our local Walgreens because by it being a smaller town, they tend to have items in stock longer than in bigger cities.  As I was browsing around, I saw this product.  I was intrigued by the brush on the end and the price ($3) so I picked it up.

OOTD: National Wear Red Day

Hello Beauties!

Happy Friday!  I am sorry for my absence as of late.  Those who follow me on Twitter may already know, but I am having computer issues.  I think my computer has finally died on me unfortunately.  I plan to borrow one until I can get another.  Because of this, this will be a very brief post.

As many of you know, today is National Wear Red Day in support of women's heart health.  I chose to wear an article of red today to show my support.  Also, I took an old braid out and turned it into an updo.  Take a look...
