Beauty | My European Wax Center Experience (Underarm Waxing)

Hello Beauties!

I am preparing for my upcoming wedding and one of the things I wanted to try was underarm waxing.  I figured it would be a great way to save time and look smooth.  As you all know, we are doing all of our wedding planning on a budget so I thought it would be the perfect time to take advantage of my European Wax Center coupon.  The European Wax Center typically offers a free brow, underarm or bikini wax to all first time guests.

Although I had been seeing their coupon in my monthly coupon package for quite some time, I had never taken advantage of the service.  I figured this was the perfect time to give it a try.  I am going to share with you my experience before, during and after having my underarms waxed.

Before

One thing I immediately noticed is the European Wax Center has an easy to use website where you can book your appointment online.  It was easy to set up my account and make an appointment for the same day.  I also loved that they had availability for same day appointments.  I wanted to ask a question about the service so when I called, the young lady I spoke with was very friendly and answered all my questions.

Arrival

When I arrived, I was immediately greeted by a young lady sitting behind a computer.  After greeting me, she asked for my driver's license to finish completing my online profile.  After completing my profile, she came from behind the desk and began to show me a brochure with yearly plans you can purchase for the center to "save money."  To me, I understand completely that you want clients to return to your center, but it seems like that should be something talked about after the procedure.  I politely listened, took the pamphlet and then proceeded in the back with the esthetician.

A quick look at my underarms before my appointment.  Yikes!

The Process

The esthetician walked me into a small room and asked me to lie down on the table with both arms above my head.  As I was getting situated, I told her it was my first time having my underarms waxed.  With that in mind, I expected her to be a little gentle.  Wrong!  She immediately spread the thick, purple wax on my underarm, waited a few seconds and then snatched it off.  It felt like someone ripping a bandage off of you unexpectedly.  Ouch!  The worst part about it is that she proceeded to do this three times with little hair being removed.

I decided to ask her how long she has been doing this.  She then told me that she had only been at the European Wax Center six weeks.  After she told me that, she then spread powder on my underarms and waxed my underarms again.  The hair finally came out.  She then began to tweeze stray hairs that were not removed.  Pain.  Pain.  Pain.  After she finished, she rubbed serum on my underarms and I was out the door.

My underarms after waxing.

After

Due to the number of times she waxed my underarms, I was definitely sore.  However, the soreness was gone by the time I went to bed.  In the morning, I used an exfoliating body wash that I received a sample of while at the European Wax Center.  Although the darkness under my arms is still there, they are definitely smooth.  There are still a few stray hairs, but not enough to truly notice.

Although my experience wasn't the best, I do understand that underarms can be one of the most sensitive areas on your body to wax.  Also, I do think I would return to the European Wax Center, but next time, I will ask how long the esthetician has been working there.

Have you visited the European Wax Center?  Are you a pro at underarm waxing?  Share your thoughts!

God bless & stay fabellis,

  2. LOL! Girl... It was intense. If my hairs were not so coarse, I would go another route, but it's either this or shaving. I think I will try it again. :-) Thanks for stopping by girl!

  3. It always hurts worse the first time you wax. The more you go the less it hurts and the less often you'll have to go. When you wax more you'll notice that your hair gets finer when it grows back.

  4. If you keep up with maintenance, it won't hurt so bad. Over time because there will be less hair. My underarms cleared up after a couple of months of waxing. I'm not looming at epilators to do maintenance when I'm too cheap to get a fresh wax...and to explore and maintain the smoothness of waxing in other areas without spending so much. .

  5. Although I've never gotten my underarms waxed I did make a visit to European Wax Center to get my upper lip waxed back in 2012. The people were very nice but other than that I wasn't impressed. After seeing the number of hairs remaining and how many times she put that awful, ineffective, thick blue wax on my face I decided that would be my first and last time. Overall, not a good experience for me :(

  6. I have never had my underarms waxed professionally. I have tried on my own and failed. I do my brows and lip and the lip is the worst pain so far. I want to get my chin but that scares me for the pain but I think she definitely wasn't a "pro" from experience because you're not supposed to continue to reapply and wax the same area over and over. But for other areas hopefully they will have someone with more experience.

  8. Wow! I think after the first snatch off I would've been out the door! You're brave to stick it through. I definitely would have asked for a more experienced tech but your results look great! Did they say how long it lasts in comparison to shaving?

  9. I've never had my underarms done but I have had tons of bikini waxes and have found that I like sugar waxing the best. It's not hot and leaves you SUPER smooth! It does sting a little when they do it though.

  10. That looks too much like torture to me! :) Ouch! And the six weeks of being there would have scared me! Your underarms do look great! What I would love to have is laser hair removal of underarms and legs - no more shaving! Thanks for sharing your experience

  11. That's interesting... I've never had any waxing done at anywhere except the European Waxing Center, although that's only been twice. I had a realllly good experience both times. The first time I went I was with other girls who had had their eyebrows done before and they said their experience was MUCH better at the European Wax Center. I think with a better esthetician you'll find it to be a much better experience :)

  12. I definitely think you are right Debbie. Even after all that I described, I plan to get it done again.

  13. Ouch girl! I couldn't do waxing since it is so painful! When I got my eyebrows waxed I pretty much cried! Congrats on your wedding girl! I can't wait to see pics!

  14. A lot of articles I have read have said the same thing about the frequency plays a huge part. I think that since I was able to handle it this first time, I would try it again. It has already been a week and the few hairs that have returned are so smooth. I can see the benefits already. I just hope my underarms do clear up!

  15. Wow! I know the young lady behind the counter was telling me that lip waxing is even more painful that underarms. I can't even imagine. Sorry you had a bad experience! I guess mine was no better. LOL! I would give them one more try, but if I have the same experience with a seasoned esthetician, that would be it!

  16. When I have tried to wax my lip or face on my own, I think my hairs were too coarse because nothing ever happens. Lol! I think this experience wasn't stellar, but I would give it one more try with someone more experienced. Also, the brazilian was way better than this. :-)

  17. Honestly, I don't know how I made it through, but I can say it was very quick Christy and I love the results enough to try again! :-)

  18. LOL! The first snatch was a shock to my system. I was a little caught off guard. You're right though. The next time, I will ask for a more experienced technician for sure. They told me it would last anywhere from 10-14 days. I am right at a week and I only have a few hairs returned. The ones that have grown back are super soft.

  19. I have read so much about sugar waxing! I even watched a video on it. It looks way better than traditional waxing. I am going to try and see if I can find someone in my area who does that!

  20. LOL! In retrospect, I'm surprised I even laid there and did it. It's funny you mention laser hair removal because I was telling a friend of mine about it the next day and she was telling me how she had laser hair removal. I am definitely thinking about that for the future!

  21. LOL! I can handle eye brow waxing no problem. I had no idea the underarms would be so sensitive. Thank you so much for the congratulations! We appreciate it! :-)

  22. A lot of people have told me they love the European Wax Center! Before I went, people were raving about it so I was a little shocked at the experience, but I definitely think it was more so the esthetician and not the company itself. I'd be willing to give it another go! :-)

  23. Tequila....lots of tequila. lol :D Glad you are pleased with the results. The pain was worth it!

  24. For a first time waxing, your hair needs to be a lot longer than you've shown. Otherwise it will be more painful. For the following appointments, this is not necessary though. I'm a waxer all the way, also down there and I've never looked back. Like you, I always had a bit of a 5 o'clock shadow with shaving and I just wanted that gone. It's all so smooth now, I love it!

For me, it wasn't particularly painful, not more than you would expect with waxing. But I have noticed that I deal with pain quite well compared to others. I've had stitches without an anesthetic, and things like getting braces tightened never hurt me as much as I heard from others. So maybe that has somehting to do with it.

  25. Thanks for sharing! This is extremely helpful. I'm actually thinking about going again soon. I had not been back since the first appointment.

  26. Oh, I forgot, it's normal for them to wax 3-4 times, that has nothing to do with the experience of the girl. Normally, they start out with a thicker wax (chocolate brown) and each wax gets thinner and thinner, the last one being the finest (lavender blue). It is then always followed up by plucking some remaining hairs. Again, to me it's not that painful, but I may not be the best one to ask. To me, it's quick pain. Once it's over, it's over. I do know that strips are far more painful, so try and avoid that. I just feel so fresh when walking out!

The only thing I don't like is that it is another thing to pay for, but I would choose this over nails any day. I go about once every 5-6 weeks.

By the way, I don't live in the US, but in Europe, but I go to a salon that is run by a Brazilian lady. As I said, I go for full Brazilians as well, and I think they know how to do it best.

  27. oh, they recommend hair that's about 5mm long for a first time. So that's less than a quarter inch?
