Beauty | derma e Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask Review

Beauties,

If you didn't know already, I am a huge fan of the natural skincare company, derma e.  They are one of my favorites because I realize now more than ever that not just natural foods, but natural skincare is essential.  derma e recently contacted me to share that they have a brand, spanking new collection called the Purifying line.  They sent me a few items to try and up first for review is the Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask.

About the Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask

Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask deeply detoxifies skin of harmful micropollutants in two ways: (1) Natural clays infused with Kimarine® Wakame, Bladerwrack and Activated Charcoal lift out dirt, oil and bacteria to decongest pores as the mask dries; (2) Apricot Seed Powder exfoliates away dead skin cells and captured debris upon removal. Kaolin and Bentonite Clays absorb excess oils and impurities, relieving skin congestion. Kimarine® Wakame is a potassium-rich, magnesium-rich seaweed that is clinically proven to protect skin against environmental pollutants (exhaust fumes, cigarette smoke, heavy metals). Bladderwrack is an antioxidant-rich, mineral-rich seaweed known for its water-binding properties, supporting healthy skin hydration and nourishment.

Activated Charcoal, known for absorbing 100 to 200 times its weight in impurities, purges pores of deeply rooted toxins, then Apricot Seed Powder gently exfoliates away micropollutants. Ideal for oily, active or urban skin types, even safe for reactive skin (minimal ingredients and allergy-tested), used this formula once or twice a week for skin that looks dramatically fresher, healthier and purely glowing.

My Thoughts

The first thing I noticed when I received this product in the mail was the size.  It's only 1.7 ounces and since the price is $19.50, I was expecting a larger size product.  However, I do appreciate that this product is made from natural ingredients and only has to be used once or twice a week.  Essentially, even though it's small, it may last awhile.  During my first application, I loved that the product is in a liquid form.  It was easy to squeeze and apply to my face.  Within a minute, the mask started hardening.

In only a few more minutes, the mask was completely hard and while it was firming, I loved the tingly feeling it gave my skin.  I love the idea of "feeling" a product working.  It seemed like as soon as I put the mask on, it was time to take it off.  Five minutes is a quick mask, but I definitely appreciated the fact that it's not time consuming.  Wait, though...  As I was removing the mask with water in a circular motion as suggested on the label, I noticed tiny granules in the mask.

It was as if I was now using a face scrub.  I've never found a charcoal scrub that is easy to remove; however, the exfoliating mechanism with this mask makes it easier to remove.  My skin felt clean and firm.  I noticed in the week following my first application that my skin rarely needed blotting and was virtually oil free.  I was very impressed!  My second application yielded the same results; however, I noticed that it was hard to get the mask out of the bottle due to the liquid drying a bit inside the tube.

Would I Recommend?

Yes.  Although I do wish the product was larger, I can't help but love how this product makes my skin feel and how it keeps oil at bay.  Keep in mind that the derma e Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask is made for normal to oily skin so I wouldn't recommend this to those with dry skin because it's made to get rid of excess oil and may result in making your skin even drier.
