Beauty | L.A. COLORS Chunky Lip Pencil Review + Swatches

Beauties,

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to spend the day with Family Dollar and even tour one of their local stores in Charlotte.  During our tour of the store, Family Dollar gave us a moment to explore the store on our own.  You all know without a doubt, I went straight for the makeup section.  I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of makeup they had in store.  They had the largest L.A. COLORS section I'd ever seen.  If you're not familiar with L.A. COLORS, it's one of the most well known, affordable makeup brands.  I've been using the brand for years and couldn't wait to try some of the products I saw in Family Dollar.

You all know I'm a lipstick girl so I picked up several L.A. COLORS lipsticks, including their Chunky Lip Pencils.  Since I wanted to give them a try before purchasing the entire collection, I picked up four of the colors, including Warm Caramel, Terra Cotta, Deep Red and Spice.

My Thoughts

I've always been a believer that great quality makeup doesn't have to be expensive.  Ninety-five percent of my daily makeup is from the drugstore so I believe that you can look fabulous on a budget.  I wasn't sure what to expect with these Chunky Lip Pencils, but what I received with these was a very pleasant surprise!  I love that these come in sturdy packaging with a great pop on/off cap.  They also are retractable so if you need more or less, all you have to do is twist the bottom portion of the pencil.

I opted to try the darkest color I purchased, Spice, first and I was immediately impressed by the color pay off.  These lip pencils are very pigmented and glide on effortlessly.  I took the lip crayon for a spin for around five hours and I was surprised at how long it lasted.  It wore off a bit, but a nice stain remained that was still pretty pigmented.  I noticed that the lighter colors in the group, Warm Caramel and Terra Cotta, don't leave much of a stain so if you eat or drink with them on, they will unfortunately disappear.

As L.A. COLORS describes, I would definitely agree that these are the perfect blend of a lipstick and a lip gloss.  They go on very smooth and feel comfortable on the lips like a gloss.  They are very light on the lips so I often forgot I had anything on.  These lipsticks are ideal for a short work shift, church or even a night out on the town.  My only gripe is that I wish they lasted longer, but a lip liner may help give them a bit more longevity.  Plus, for $2, you can't beat them!

Rating:  A-

Overall, I would highly recommend the L.A. COLORS Chunky Lip Pencils.  I feel they are so affordable and pigmented that it's almost a no brainer.  To learn more about the L.A. COLORS Chunky Lip Pencils, click here.
