Beauty | Black Opal True Color Pore Perfecting Liquid Foundation Review

Beauties,

I think I am one of the few beauty bloggers of color who has not used many Black Opal products.  I have been hearing so many positive reviews of Black Opal for years, but after choosing the wrong shades for myself a few years ago, I hadn't tried Black Opal since.  I was recently volunteering in a Walmart in Charlotte when I came across a pretty impressive selection of Black Opal products.  I had seen most of their products before, but the True Color Pore Perfecting Liquid Foundation was new to me.  I was easily able to spot a shade that looked similar to my skin tone and you all know I love trying new beauty products so I figured I would give it a try.  After using it the last week, I wanted to share with you all my full review and thoughts.

My Thoughts

First of all, I was so in awe of the beauty section overall in Walmart on Tryon Street in Charlotte.  If you are ever in the area, be sure to check it out.  It definitely was the best beauty section I'd ever seen in a Walmart and I've shopped at Walmart for years.  Moving on...  When I was perusing the aisles and saw the Black Opal True Color Pore Perfecting Liquid Foundation, I was really intrigued.  The packaging is so nice and looks very similar to a product you may find in Sephora.  I loved the sleek design and it was fairly easy to find a shade to match my skin, which is Truly Topaz.  While I wasn't thrilled by the nearly $11 price tag, I can admit that it's better than $30-$40 foundations I have purchased in the past.

After purchasing, I immediately tried it the next day.  I love that this foundation has a pump and I found that it gave me plenty of product with just one pump.  It was easy to apply and as always, I used my beauty sponge.  With about one and a half pumps, I was able to cover my entire face and neck.  This foundation is a light to medium coverage so I did have to reapply in certain areas where I have dark spots.  It went on smooth, but surprisingly it doesn't dry to a matte finish like it claims.  It gives more of a satin finish.  I wore it the first day for about eight to ten hours.  While I did notice a bit of a shiny nose during the day, overall, my makeup stayed on, looked good and was radiant.

I've been using the product for an entire week and overall, I like it.  Several reviewers on the Black Opal website say the product is runny and oily on their skin, but I've never experienced that with this product.  Now keep in mind, I have not used a mattifying primer with this foundation so I can truly imagine that if I did, I wouldn't have to blot during the middle of the day.  However, I have found that regardless, I typically only have to blot once and that's even with wearing it up to 12 hours.  At the end of the day, I just like how this foundation looks.  It fits my skin well and gives me a radiant look throughout the day with little oil and no breakouts.  If you are someone who likes more of a full coverage look, you can achieve it with this foundation, but be careful because it can appear cakey if you apply too much product.

Rating:  B+

Overall, I like this foundation.  I love that Black Opal has mastered creating colors for women of color and that they have added new products to their line like this foundation.  Can I imagine it replacing my infamous Maybelline Matte and Poreless Foundation?  Not really, but I think it's a great back up.
