Miss Jessie's Curly Meringue Review

Hello Beauties!

It has been far too long since I have done a review on natural hair products!  [See my last review here.] Today, I want to share my personal experience with the wildly popular Miss Jessie's Curly Meringue.  I recently received a small jar of the Meringue from a giveaway I won from Tajuana over at Curvy, Natural, & Loving It!  When I received it, I was a bit skeptical because of my own personal experiences with the Curly Pudding and the overall cost of the products.  Before we get into my results and thoughts of the product, let's learn more about Curly Meringue.

  • Expensive

My Thoughts

I tried the product over the course of a week and I can't lie here people.  I was very impressed by the Meringue.  I could tell as I was creating my two strand twists and raking the product through my detangled hair that I was in for a great twist.  The product was incredibly creamy and easy to smooth through my hair.  It also created a great shine when first applied.  It also really elongated my curls, which even though I don't mind shrinkage, sometimes I want to see my hair length!  I also loved the hold.  For me, my hair is very very soft so the downfall to that is that my hair becomes fuzzy or unravels easily.  This kept my twists in place and I could have worn them for a week or more if I desired.

The downfall to the product was that it was drying for my hair.  The site does suggest using Baby Buttercreme or Curly Buttercreme to moisturize your twists the following days.  Admittedly, I did not use either; however, I was just overall shocked that such a creamy texture could dry my hair.  Also, I did notice a slight smell to the product.  Although it wasn't overwhelming, it wasn't a pleasant, fresh smell that I'm used to with natural products.

Would I Purchase?

Hmmmmm...  I would say yes.  The reason being is that I barely wear two strand twists for prolonged periods of time and had yet to find a product that allowed me to do that.  This gives a great hold so I'm able to do that when I would like.  Also, the definition of the twist out when I pulled the two strand twists apart was gorgeous.  I would probably keep the smaller jar around for when I am in the mood for two strand twists.

Have you used any of Miss Jessie's products?  Are you a fan of the Curly Meringue?

God bless & stay fabellis!

  1. Ya know, I got some at a hair meetup / product swap and I have yet to try it. I'm in 2 strand twists now (i barely am) but next time I do them, I'll try this. Stinks that it's drying. Maybe I'll use a moisturizer under and then this product?

    Great review!

  2. Thanks so much for this review. I actually have some 2 oz sizes of Miss J's and so far they seem ok. Now for the good news, I also found a product by a company called III Sisters of Nature (Facebook) and they are claiming to have almost identical results for 1/2 the price. For instance, they have a 'Spiral Pudding' compared to Miss J's Curly pudding and it cost 12.99. This company also has a 'Gello' that reminds me of shea moisture's coconut & Hibiscus souffle and you get like 12 oz's + a 2ounce freebie for 9.99..they compared this Gelo with Kinky-Curly curling custard! Thanks so much for this Fab Review!

  5. I have heard rumblings of this product here and there but never a really good review on it, so thanks for the info. I was going to take the Miss Jessies plunge when they were having there sale but after reading the ingredients on a few of the products I wanted to try I changed my mind. For the cost of the product I assumed everything thing was natural/organic. Maybe I will give this a try since it have been Fab approved!

  7. I like their meringue, except the bubble gum smell not so much. I heard their pudding is good too. I'm going to try it out. I have some samples and I hear it's great for twist outs.
