Beauties,

If you have seen my latest post, I'm sure you may have noticed a change.  I changed my hair color!  I don't regard myself as a spur of the moment type of person, but changing my hair color was indeed a random moment.  I started contemplating going from blonde to darker tresses a few months ago, but I wasn't completely sold on it because quite frankly I love blonde hair.  As I was sitting in Tiffany Denae's chair a few weeks ago, I decided to make a quick change and it was for one reason and one reason only.

Beauties,

It's hard to believe that in just a few months I will be celebrating my sixth year of rocking my natural curls.  Time has truly flown by, but the most amazing part is that I can still say it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.  There were times during my journey that I wished my hair would grow faster or be curlier, but today, I can say that I love my hair just the way it is.  Throughout my journey, I've worn everything from a teeny weeny afro to big, voluminous curls.  Since I've gone through every stage of the natural hair journey, I'm here to tell you that there is beauty in every stage and length of your curls.

Beauties,

If you've seen me on social media in the last few days, I'm sure I'm looking a bit different than normal.  You all know that I love switching up my hair.  In the last few years, I've worn everything from red hair to shaved sides to crochet locs.  One hairstyle I've always wanted to try, but had been a bit afraid to, is blonde hair.  I love how blonde hair looks on women of color, but I have heard horror stories of how drying and damaging it can be.  I tend to be one of those people who likes to at least try something once so I decided for my 30th birthday, I was going to finally go blonde.

Beauties,

If you know me, you know that I have a special relationship with my hair stylist.  I have been a regular customer of hers for over four years and even my mom has become her client as well.  She has a special touch and gift when it comes to hair.  With natural hair, I have seen so many women that, once they go natural, refuse to step into a hair salon again.  I know that some of the reasoning is often because of bad experiences they've had in the past with stylists.  I can honestly say that the health of my hair is a direct result of regular visits to the hair salon.

Beauties,

If you've been following my blog since back in the day, you know that I used to have longer, natural hair.  When I first went natural, I was on a mission to get my hair back to the length it once was.  Once I got there, though, I struggled with maintaining my hair myself due to its thickness and wasn't happy with the boring shape.  I ended up having my hair cut into a tapered shape and I've been happy ever since.  My tapered cut was long enough to still do a lot of styles, but there were a few that no matter how many times I tried, I just could not get right.

Beauties,

Last year around this time, I was two days into my new job and rocking my newly shaved sides.  I absolutely loved the feeling of something bold and new.  Even though shaved sides are my absolute favorite style, you may have seen that throughout the past six months, I have been growing my sides back.  The maintenance of getting my hair cut every two weeks was more than I liked  or was used to.  So I began growing my sides back out and believe it or not, it wasn't that bad.

Beauties,

It’s hard to believe the holidays are here already!  From decorations to eggnog, it’s time to get this party started!  If you’re like me, you may have a few upcoming holiday parties to attend.  Whether you’re attending an office holiday party or a gathering with friends, I have three hairstyles to share that are easy to create and perfect for curly girls.

Beauties,

Even though fall and winter are my favorite seasons, I admit that they can be a bit tough on curly hair.  The cold weather can make curls dry and hard to maintain its moisture.  Whether you plan to rock a protective style or your loose curls this season, I have two steps to share that can definitely keep your hair moisturized and healthy during the harsh winter cold.  Plus, these tips can easily be incorporated any time of the year to increase moisture retention.

Beauties,

When I began my natural hair journey in 2011, I had the slightest idea of how that decision would change my life.  I knew that after a bad keratin treatment, my hair would no longer curl and I needed that to change.  In the process of my hair changing, I changed.  Nearly five years after my big chop, I’ve learned so much about myself.

Beauties,

I had the pleasure of speaking at the 3rd Annual NaturalStar Natural Hair Expo in Charlotte last Saturday.  This well planned and fabulous event was held from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Carole A. Hoefner Recreation Center.  The event included workshops, vendors, demonstrations, food and special guest, CharyJay.  I hosted a workshop entitled, "Own Your Style," in the morning and I was happy to have around 20 women in my workshop.

Beauties,

With all that we have to go through as women, I believe we are superhuman!  I feel like we can handle anything that comes our way and thanks to Women's ROGAINE® Foam, we can even handle thinning hair or hair loss.  For me, my hair is what makes me feel feminine and fabulous hair is the final touch when I'm getting ready each day.  The reality is, we talk about styling hair so much yet we don't talk enough about the possibility of losing our hair.  Thinning hair and hair loss is not talked about often enough until it happens.  Today I want to share a few hair facts as well as tips and how Women's ROGAINE® Foam can help with hair thinning and/or hair loss!

Beauties,

Let me be frank.  Red hair has always scared me.  I love how it looks on other people, but I always thought red hair was too bold for me.  This year thus far, though, has been filled with bold steps for me.  From starting a new job to shaving the sides of my hair, it's been a year of new experiences.  So as I started thinking about trying a new hair color, red was the first color that came to mind.  I took the plunge over the weekend and needless to say, I'm glad I did.

Beauties,

It's protective style season!  Even though I have shaved sides, that was not going to keep me from wearing a protective style this summer.  When I recently discovered Curlkalon online, I knew it was time to bring back my favorite protective style, crochet braids.  I recently had the Curlkalon Kenzie Curls installed and I'm giving the scoop on my first impressions in my latest video.

Hello Beauties!

You may remember a few years ago, I reviewed the nuNAAT Real Me Curl-to-Coil Collection.  My review of this collection was my introduction to nuNAAT and the company has been on my radar ever since.  Since I had such a great experience with the Real Me Curl-to-Coil Collection, I was more than happy to try a new product when nuNAAT recently reached out to me.  Today I'll be giving you the low down on the NAAT Cream with Olive Oil and Shea Butter.

Hello Beauties!

If you're like me, you've been seeing IsoPlus in beauty supply stores for years.  In fact, it's a product often seen in beauty salons.  Although I've seen the IsoPlus for some time, I had my first experience using the products recently.  I've been using the Coconut Oil with Ylang Ylang Conditioner over the past few weeks.  Keep reading to learn my thoughts on this popular conditioner...

Love your curls.  A smile beamed across my face when I saw the Dove Hair Love Your Curls book and actually held it in my hand.  To be honest, as I started to read the first few pages and look at the pictures, I got overwhelmed with emotion.  Love Your Curls, is a poetic tribute to curly hair.  Written by best-selling author, Taiye Selasi and illustrated by Annick Poirier, it is intended to represent and inspire curly girls of all ages.

Hello Beauties!

I mentioned on Instagram over the weekend that although February 28 is technically the last day of Black History Month, I celebrate black history all year.  As we leave February and are now in March, I love that we go directly from Black History Month to Women's History Month.  In celebration of Black History and Women's History Months, I wanted to highlight six natural hair companies owned by black women.  These companies are companies I admire, respect and appreciate not only what they do, but how they represent black women.

Hello Beauties!

To encourage women around the world to commit to wearing their hair in its most natural state, BlackNaturalHairstyles.org, is founding International Keep it Kinky Day on Saturday, February 21, 2015.  “It’s a day without heat, weaves and chemicals, it’s a day for that big chop of yours,” said site co-founder Tiffani Knowles.

Hello Beauties!

I can hardly believe I've been natural four years.  It seems like just yesterday I went to the salon to do the big chop.  When I went to the salon for my big chop, the stylist was afraid to cut my hair.  She wanted me to be absolutely sure before she did the chop so she cut some of it, told me to go home and think about it and if I still wanted to do the big chop tomorrow, she'd allow me to come back and cut it for free.  Needless to say, I went back the next day, nerves and all, and let her cut the remaining portion of my hair.

Hello Beauties!

Thank you for all of the positive feedback on my haircut in my last post!  Sometimes I still can't believe I worked up the nerve to have my sides shaved, but each day, I wake up, I love the way it looks.  While I decided to get a haircut this winter, a lot of naturalistas are wearing protective styles during this season to protect their hair and scalp.  A wig is a common protective style and last month, I was sent the FreeTress Creta Girl Half Wig by Divatress.com.
