Lifestyle | Five Easy Ideas to Give Back to Your Local Community

Beauties,

Giving back to my local community has always been important to me.  From speaking at workshops to volunteering to donating to my local clothing donation center, I love being able to help others.  I feel that helping others is one of the things we're called to do.  Many may feel that giving back requires a lot of time or money, but the truth is, it doesn't.  There are small things you can do that can actually help create big changes in your community.

Five Easy Ideas to Give Back to Your Local Community

1.  Donate clothing or household items you no longer use.

People sometimes forget that donating is one of the simplest ways to help others.  Many donation centers actually give a great portion of the money they make right back into their community.  In my area, some of the donation centers give $0.83 of each dollar back into the community to help people find jobs.  Also, for people that are needing items while on a budget, these donation centers are key for them.  Instead of throwing good condition items away, try donating them.

2.  Volunteer for an hour.

From schools to hospitals, there are so many places looking for people willing to volunteer their time.  Volunteering is absolutely free and is needed by so many.  A lot of volunteer opportunities even allow you to volunteer for as short as an hour.  When I was in college, I spent a few hours helping to build a home for a family and it was an amazing experience.

3.  Host or participate in a workshop.

We all have different gifts and talents.  Your gift can truly help someone so why not share it?  One of my personal passions is blogging.  For Social Media Day, I was invited to the Small Business Center in my area to discuss blogging and how to get started.  The best part about this workshop was that it was free to attend!  Why not share your passion with others?  Volunteering to host or be a part of a workshop could be a great way to help your community!

4.  Participate in a charity walk.

Charity walks are something you see a few times a year.  It involves getting up early and giving a few hours of your time to walk in solidarity for a special cause.  Find a cause that you love and walk for it!  Most of the time the walks are free or require a small donation.

5.  Visit a local museum.

Now this may come as a bit of a surprise, but visiting your local museum can truly help your community.  Imagine if your area has a free museum that no one ever visits, what do you think would happen to it?  It may close.  Each time I have friends visit from out of town, I try to take them to local museums in my area so it not only shows them more about Greensboro, but helps the community.

Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company is set to donate a total of $2 million to support three important causes:  health, home and hunger.  Their corporate giving campaign, Band Together, will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, and Feeding America or Food Banks Canada.

YOU can help decide how to disperse the record-breaking donation by voting for your choice of causes from July 11, 2016 at 11am CT - July 31, 2016 at 11pm CT.  The cause that receive the most votes by the end of July will receive a $1 million donation from Jewelers Mutual. The runner-up will receive $700,000 and $300,000 will go to the third-place winner.

Voters will be entered for a chance to win weekly jewelry prizes from STACKED New York. Each week, one lucky winner will receive a set of 3 stacking bands ($450 retail value). Vote daily to increase your chances of winning!
