Healthy Living | I Did Jenny Craig for Two Months and Here's What Happened

I have struggled to lose weight for years.  At the time I met my husband in 2012, I was in a pretty good routine of maintaining my weight, but with the combination of love, lots of good food and sometimes stress, I gained almost 100 pounds in five years.  That's shocking, I know.  It's just as hard for me to realize exactly how much weight I gained.  I knew something needed to change and Jenny Craig came at just the right time.  I was given the opportunity to try Jenny Craig Anywhere for two months.  My two month journey had it's highs, lows and even a few surprises in between.

If you are not familiar with Jenny Craig Anywhere, the program offers one-on-one support through consultations over the phone or via video chat.   They also provide the majority of your food; however, you do have to pick up some items such as salad, Greek yogurt and string cheese to go along with meals and snacks.  I found myself spending around $20 a week for the extra food items, which wasn't bad at all.

After doing Jenny Craig Anywhere for two months, I can say that there were a few things I really loved about the program as well as a few things that were not my favorite.  Let me break them down below:

What I Love About Jenny Craig

The hype is real.  The food is really good!

If you have seen a Jenny Craig commercial on television, you have most likely seen many say that the food is delicious.  They are not lying!  The food is surprisingly very good.  The fish and chips, chicken fettuccine and triple chocolate cheesecake are just a few of my favorites.

It cuts grocery shopping down to a minimum.

With the majority of your meals being delivered right to your doorstep, it cuts down grocery store visits.  I found myself only having to go to the store once every two weeks.  I would buy most things in bulk.  It was so convenient to know that when I got up each morning, every meal was right at my fingertips.

I actually lost weight and got active!

My original goal was to lose 20 pounds during the program.  I lost five* pounds total; however, I lost a ton of inches.  I wish my focus had been more on inches throughout the program rather than actual pounds.  Sometimes it was discouraging to get on the scale and see no weight loss.  So, if you ever start this program, I highly recommend to measure yourself and track inches from the beginning!

Also, I ended up going down two pant sizes.  As for exercise, I went from barely exercising to exercising almost three times a week.  I started to have so much more energy and I love how I feel!  I'm closer to getting back to my Size 16!

What I Did Not Love About Jenny Craig

The meals weren't always convenient and eating healthy while dining out was difficult.

I really believe this program can be wonderful for the right person.  If I were still in an office setting or had more structured hours, I feel this program would have been easier for me.  I am always on the go and I found it hard to keep up with meals.  I went from eating about twice a day to eating six times a day and while I do feel it helps boost metabolism, a lot of days I just couldn't keep up.

My Jenny Craig Consultant, Michelle, made two suggestions including possibly carrying my meals with me in an insulated bag as well as moving meals/snacks around to what's most convenient.  Most days I'm in situations where I can't stop to eat for five to seven hours so it just didn't work for me.  Jenny Craig does offer tips for dining out, but I felt the guidelines were hard to follow at most restaurants so I often would lose my desire to even eat out.  Overall, I found that this program did not really work well with my lifestyle.

The phone calls with my consultant got boring.

One of the things I was most excited about when I was chosen for Jenny Craig Anywhere was having someone I could talk to about my goals and keep me encouraged and motivated.  Michelle and I would have our weekly call at 9:30 a.m. every Thursday.  Throughout the first few weeks as I was getting used to Jenny Craig and developing a routine, I found our weekly calls very helpful.

Over time, I started to find the calls a bit monotonous.  I believe as I started to see this program was not the right fit for my lifestyle, I began to lose interest in the weekly calls.  I feel the calls would certainly be helpful for someone who is able to follow the program and extremely focused on losing weight.

Overall, I'm walking away from the program knowing even more than ever the true importance of meal planning, how to eat a fruit and vegetable filled diet and five pounds lighter!  To learn more about Jenny Craig Anywhere, click here.
