Natural Hair | Three Reasons I Still Visit the Salon Regularly

Beauties,

If you know me, you know that I have a special relationship with my hair stylist.  I have been a regular customer of hers for over four years and even my mom has become her client as well.  She has a special touch and gift when it comes to hair.  With natural hair, I have seen so many women that, once they go natural, refuse to step into a hair salon again.  I know that some of the reasoning is often because of bad experiences they've had in the past with stylists.  I can honestly say that the health of my hair is a direct result of regular visits to the hair salon.

I visit the salon typically four to six times a year.  Going natural for me was a blessing because it's cool to now know how to properly care for and style my own hair.  There are just a few things that I entrust to a licensed professional, though.  I wanted to take some time to share a few things that I entrust only to my hair stylist.

Three Reasons I Still Visit the Salon Regularly

1.  Hair Cuts and Trims

I love short hair so anytime I want to have my hair cut, I visit the salon.  I also trust my hair stylist to give me trims.  Trim is a scary word for some naturalistas.  I understand completely because some stylists are scissor happy and you want to maintain as much length as you can.  I've never had much of a problem with hair trims because I know that trimming my hair regularly equates to healthier hair.

Plus, my stylist taught me that you don't always have to trim your hair every six to eight weeks.  It depends on your hair as well as how often you apply heat.  I probably have my hair trimmed no more than four times a year.  I also prefer to have my hair trimmed by a stylist because I can't see behind my head nor do I know how to do it accurately.  I would rather entrust her to handle this for me.

2.  Hair Color

I am often asked if I dye my hair myself.  Hair color is one of those things that I prefer a professional do.  While I understand that box color is more affordable, I have also seen people with disasters after trying to color their hair themselves.  I often like to lighten my hair so I definitely entrust that to a licensed professional.  Plus, if you have been following my blog for awhile, I have had several different hair colors, but each time, my hair has been healthy and vibrant.

3.  Protective Styles

If you have read this post, you all know my struggle with protective styles.  I am truly challenged when it comes to certain styles.  With protective styles, I can completely understand why many do them at home.  It saves money.  I prefer to have my protective styles done in a salon because I like to have my hair washed well and deep conditioned before styling.  I like to keep my protective styles in between six to eight weeks so I like to have a deep condition beforehand.  My favorite protective styles to go in the salon are crochet braids and senegalese twists.

What are your thoughts?  Do you still regularly visit the salon?

God bless & stay fab,
