Fierce & Festive Natural Updo's for the Holidays

Hello Beauties!

As we are all gearing up for the holidays, one of the main questions I have seen in the natural haired community is how natural ladies are styling their hair for Thanksgiving.  Design Essentials has you covered!

Design Essentials® Natural Hair Guru, Deshonica Kerrie, offers styling tips for festive holiday updos below:

Design Essentials® Multi-Roll Updo

STYLING TIP #1: When creating the perfect, chic holiday updo, Design Essentials® Master Stylist Deshonica Kerrie prepped the model's hair by first blowdrying it 80% straight.  By blow drying the hair first, it is easier to achieve smooth flat twists which helps to anchor the updo from the sides. Photo Credit: Blue Poppy

STYLING TIP #2: After twisting the side of the hair, Deshonica parts the remaining hair into multiple sections and begins to roll and tuck the hair, securing each roll with pins.  To ensure a smooth look while keeping the hair moisturized, Deshonica applies Design Essentials® Natural Daily Moisturizing Lotion and Nutriment Rx Creme Hairdress to each rolled section. Photo Credit: Blue Poppy

STYLING TIP #3: This revolutionized French Roll which includes several multi-rolls was created using Design Essentials® Natural Curl Cleanser Sulfate Free ShampooNatural Moisturizing ConditionerNatural Daily Moisturizing Lotion and Nutriment Rx Creme Hairdress.  This is a great styling option for longtime and newly naturals, offering the perfect double-take style for the holidays!  Photo Credit: Blue Poppy

Design Essentials® Old & New Updo

STYLING TIP #1: For a festive night out this holiday season, Deshonica suggests creating a trendy look by combining a little bit of the old and new for a funky up-do. Deshonica achieves this style by first crafting a flat twist design around the sides and back of the hair. Photo Credit: Blue Poppy

STYLING TIP #2: After completing the flat twists, Deshonica rolled and tucked sections of the hair by applying dime-sized amounts of Design Essentials® Natural Daily Moisturizing Lotion and Nutriment Rx Creme Hairdress. Afterward, each roll was secured with hair pins.  Photo Credit: Blue Poppy

STYLING TIP #3Deshonica finishes this old and new retro style by locking in shine with a light mist of Design Essentials® Diamonds Oil Sheen, smoothed over each roll with the fingertips.  Photo Credit: Blue Poppy

Design Essentials® Spiral Updo

STYLING TIP #1: For a great updo to last your readers through the holiday season (approx. 2-4 weeks), Deshonica offers up the Spiral Updo. This style is achieved first by using Design Essentials® Natural Twist and Set Setting Lotion. After applying the product, Deshonica took small sections of the hair and hooked it to small and medium sized setting rods, making sure to start at the base of the hair while wrapping the hair downward, around the rod, toward the end. The hair was then secured to the rod with a hair clamp. Photo Credit: Blue Poppy

STYLING TIP #2: After removing the rods upon drying the hair, Deshonica Kerrie separated the coils using Design Essentials® Natural Daily Moisturizing Lotion to achieve frizz-free, individual ringlets.  Photo Credit: Blue Poppy

STYLING TIP #3: Voila! Upon separating the coils, this natural girl is ready to start her holiday celebration! For long lasting wear, Deshonica recommends applying a small amount of Design Essentials® Natural Daily Moisturizing Lotion to revitalize curls and reduce frizz as the curls begin to expand with wear.  Photo Credit: Blue Poppy

What do you think?  Are you going to try one of these styles?

  6. I've always seen those spiral rods in the beauty supply and I was so afraid to try one because I've never seen the curl it produces. I like it though. It's very cute. I like the first updo as well. I may give that one a try!
