Events | Triad Goodwill 8th Annual Rock the Runway Fashion Show Recap

Beauties,

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending Triad Goodwill's Rock the Runway Fashion Show for the second year in a row.  This year was extremely special for me because I was asked to be one of the judges.  If you've never heard of Rock the Runway, the show includes designers who create original ensembles with clothing donated to Triad Goodwill.  Not only do you get to enjoy a fabulous show, but you also get to shop and support a worthy cause.  All proceeds from the night’s festivities benefit those who experience barriers in employment and job training within our community.  As a donator and frequent shopper of Triad Goodwill, I couldn't wait to see what the designers would create.

When my husband and I arrived to Elm Street Center in Downtown Greensboro, we knew exactly where to go.  We headed downstairs where a silent auction was underway and hot hors d'oeuvres and cold drinks were lined up for guests to enjoy.  As we walked around, a drawing of Audrey Hepburn in the silent auction really caught my eye.  We enjoyed the hors d'oeuvres and the crab dip was definitely my favorite.  It wasn't long before I had to head upstairs to join the other judges before the show.

Left to Right:  Susan Ladd, Lynn Wooten and Myself

I soon joined Susan Ladd and Lynn Wooten upstairs where we were briefed about the show, where to sit and of course, how judging would take place.  We were seated alongside the middle of the runway.  It was the perfect spot and not long after we were seated, guests came in and the show got started.  The interesting part about this year's show was that all of the designers were women.  Girls rock!  It was amazing having an up close view of all of the designs as models strutted their stuff down the runway.

The designers really showed their creativity this year and I was amazed that designs ranged from on trend styles you could where right now to romantic gowns you can imagine from the early 1900s.  I loved the styles from three of the designers:  Florence Wallace, Michelle Teague and Sanja Grgic.  Florence won the News & Record Unconventional Material Challenge and she was the Audience Choice winner.  Sanja was the Judges' Choice winner.  Congratulations to Florence and Sanja!

After the show, I headed back downstairs for one of my favorite parts of Rock the Runway...Willows Boutique!  Willows Boutique is a store they set up at the show where you can actually buy some of the best items from local Triad Goodwill donation stores.  This year, I found some amazing jewelry pieces including a statement ring, statement earrings and a cool collar pin.  I got all three for less than $8!  It's hard to imagine a show that allows you to eat, thrift and see amazing fashion, but Triad Goodwill Rock the Runway does just that!

Thank you Triad Goodwill for allowing me to be a judge this year!  I had a wonderful time and I look forward to next year's show!  To see more pictures from the event, click here.  To read my interview with News & Record before the show, click here.

God bless & stay fab,
