Beauties,
This year is my husband and I's third year celebrating Air Max Day. I look forward to Air Max Day every year now because it's a time that we get to celebrate something we both enjoy together, sneakers! As I shared the first year, my husband gifted me the first Air Max silhouette I fell in love with and each year, we've been celebrating with a new silhouette. The cool thing about this year is that I was able to take a moment to really put on my creative hat and think about how I wanted the vibe and feel of our pictures to be.
This year has been a little different for me creatively because although I always love using a professional photographer, I've taken a step back from it to start creating more on my own. I've seen a lot of people talking about how true creatives are those that create something out of nothing. I think that is so true and lately, I've wanted to stretch myself creatively. I want to spend more time seeing if I could come up with ideas, execute them and bring them to life.
With that in mind, I knew that it was really important to me to keep this annual tradition of Air Max Day going for us. So, I looked on Pinterest about a week before Air Max Day to see if anything stood out to me. I knew I wanted to include flowers since it's Spring and so much is blooming in our area. I found a few images for inspiration, went to Trader Joe's and bought several bouquets of flowers and came home to get started.

I created my own bouquet and showed my husband the theme I was going for. He chose his outfit, which was perfect for the feel of the images and we took our tripod and remote to a local park and got these images in about 30 minutes. I felt so accomplished that day. Always remember, nothing you create is small. Everything you deem important is important. Keep creating because you deserve to share your gifts and the world needs them.
God bless & stay fab,
When it comes to having thicker ankles, I know all about it girl! My ankles have been one of the parts of my body that I wished I could make just a tad smaller in the past, but not anymore! I have learned over the years to embrace them. The things you cannot change in life do not have to be a negative. Learn to work with them! I can't tell you the amount of shoes and ankle jewelry I could not wear at one point, but curiosity and my local shoe repair opened a brand new world for me. So gone are the days of limiting myself and my fashion!
Beauties,
Have you heard the big news? If you were following my adventures during #NYFW last weekend on Instagram, I’m sure you saw how excited I was for the latest Stitch Fix Collection! Rebecca Minkoff and Stitch Fix have teamed up to launch their first-ever, size-inclusive collection! YAS GIRL! We are talking designer goodness in sizes XXS-3X and 00-24W. The collection launched September 7th and is now available exclusively at Stitch Fix.
Listen... If I never saw a bootcut jean again in my life, I would be ecstatic. I know most of you are either laughing at me or wondering what is wrong with bootcut jeans. Honestly, there is nothing wrong with them. I am just tired of women thinking they are the only possible cut of jeans they are capable of wearing. I work part time in retail and you would not believe the amount of women who are afraid to try something new. I not only hear personal body shaming, which bothers me to my core, but women who say, "Oh, I can't wear that." Stop it! You never know what will look good on you unless you try it. One wardrobe staple I get the most push back on is skinny jeans so I'm hear today to debunk the myths of skinny jeans.
I have been back from the TCFStyleExpo an entire week and I am still missing all of the fabulous ladies I met in Atlanta. This was my first year attending the TCFStyleExpo, which is a two-day plus size fashion event created by The Curvy Fashionista that includes shopping, panels and workshops and fashion shows. It was such a great experience! From the Cobb Galleria to the surrounding area, I loved the venue and the area of Atlanta it was located in. A venue that is easy to find with great hotels and restaurants nearby and even a mall right across the street is a definite win! Now that I am home, I have had time to reflect on the weekend and I want to share three of my favorite moments from the weekend.
If there is one thing I realized after turning 30 last year, it was that I definitely need to travel more. After my first trips to Chicago and Las Vegas, it wasn't long before I got bit by the travel bug. Now I'm on a mission to get my passport and travel out of the country for the first time. When it comes to travel, I believe it's more than possible to do it while on a budget. In fact, there are quite a few things you can find at the thrift store to prepare for upcoming trips and save before you even take flight. I wanted to share five items you can find at the thrift store to prepare for your upcoming trips!
Unless you have been under a rock, I am sure you have heard of the ever so popular subscription clothing service, Stitch Fix. Stitch Fix, who calls themselves your partner in personal style, is a personal style service for men and women that evolves with your tastes, needs and lifestyle. Each month, two months and whenever you want, your Stitch Fix stylist will prepare and send a box filled with clothing and/or accessories based upon your style indicated in your Style Profile, which is a style survey you complete when you sign up. You then pay a $20 styling fee for each box and the box is on its way. Stitch Fix recently added clothing for plus sizes to their site and needless to say, the curvy world is excited!
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending Triad Goodwill's Rock the Runway Fashion Show for the second year in a row. This year was extremely special for me because I was asked to be one of the judges. If you've never heard of Rock the Runway, the show includes designers who create original ensembles with clothing donated to Triad Goodwill. Not only do you get to enjoy a fabulous show, but you also get to shop and support a worthy cause. All proceeds from the night’s festivities benefit those who experience barriers in employment and job training within our community. As a donator and frequent shopper of Triad Goodwill, I couldn't wait to see what the designers would create.
Beauties,
Ever since I was young, I have had a slight obsession with yellow gold. I still remember receiving yellow gold hoop earrings for Christmas when I was younger and how excited I was to wear them immediately. Perhaps that’s where it all began. My mother, whom I’ve always admired, has always worn only yellow gold. I’ve always viewed gold as classy and timeless so I’m excited to share a gift guide centered around my love for gold. If you know someone who loves yellow gold, they will love these gifts. Plus, whether you’re on a budget or willing to splurge, there is something here for you.
I should probably be embarrassed that I have only been measured for a bra twice in my life. It was just something I never thought to do. I remember my mother helping me find a bra as a teenager and from there, I just went with what looked and felt good as I got older. That's generally what most of us do, right? Well, a few weeks ago, I had a moment that truly changed my life. I had a bra fitting at Lane Bryant and realized I was wearing the wrong cup size. I was measured as a 40G and even though the cup size shocked me at first, when I tried on the bra, it all made sense.
I know that we still have a few weeks until the official start of fall, but everywhere you go, people are talking about the fall season. Fall fashion is at the stores, football is on television and it's already starting to cool off in some areas. Fall is my favorite season so I can hardly wait for the cooler weather. As we get ready to transition into fall, I've started pinning some of my favorite fall looks on Pinterest. I thought it would be a great idea to share a few transitional pieces that would be perfect to transition your wardrobe to fall. The great thing about a lot of these pieces is that you can easily find them at thrift or consignment stores.
Thank you so much for the amazing feedback on my latest thrift haul! I'm really enjoying being back into thrifting and sharing how easy it is to incorporate thrifted pieces into your wardrobe. After my recent post on why you should thrift with your squad, I realized that there is something else you should know about thrifting. It is so easy to miss true gems in thrift stores. How? There are certain sections that we sometimes never visit due to either lack of time or interest. Today I'm sharing the sections of the thrift store you should never skip.
As you all saw in Monday's post, I'm getting back to my old thrifting ways. I've been thrifting since I was in high school thanks to my mom taking me on trips to a small consignment store in my hometown. I love the idea of getting a great deal on unique pieces and I soon discovered that styles are always being recycled. I'm sharing all the great thrift finds I found in July with you.
A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to attend a thrift meetup with by KikiSol. This was only my second thrift meetup I had attended so I was curious to see how it would be to thrift with a group this time around. This meetup ended up being my best thrifting experience ever. I'm one of those people who normally likes to shop alone so I was surprised at not only how much fun it was to shop with a group, but how beneficial it truly was. As I've been reflecting on how great of an experience it was, I wanted to share with you three reasons you should thrift with your squad.
When I was growing up, my mom always thought it was absolutely ridiculous that I owned at least 10 white tees at a time. I bought white tees often because they are one of the most versatile pieces to have in your wardrobe. I've worn white tees or tanks with suits, shorts, dress pants, skirts, etc. The list can go on and on. A white tee is a staple in my closet and I think it should be in yours too! To show the versatility of white tees, I have created a roundup of ladies rocking white tees and tanks in their own unique way.
A few weeks ago, I shared a style post wearing the color red. I mentioned that I am on a mission to add more red to my wardrobe. After the post went live, I received comments from people who, like myself, like the color red, but didn't seem to have much of it in their closets. I wanted a way to show how easy it is to add red to your wardrobe. I have collected photos of style bloggers flawlessly rocking red. I hope you're inspired by these looks!
If you've been following me for some time, you know that I am a thrift shopper. One of the ways I recommend people save money on clothing, accessories and even home decor is to check out your local thrift store. I've been thrifting since I was in high school and I enjoy it even more today as an adult, but let me be real. Thrifting can be time consuming and you have to have not only the time, but the patience to do it. I've found a solution for when I'm not in the mood for thrift shopping. Online thrifting is a convenient and fun way to purchase unique, one of a kind clothing and accessories from the comfort of your own home!
Now that we're getting closer to summer, the cookouts have started and it's getting hotter outside. With the warm weather here, it's time for days at the beach and pool. It's hard to believe that I actually wore my first two piece bathing suit to the beach a little over two years ago. Due to lack of options and low confidence, I used to try to stay covered at the beach. I'm glad times and my confidence have changed! There are so many options for plus size women now. We can all look fabulous on the beach!
I had the pleasure of attending the Triad Goodwill 7th Annual Rock the Runway Fashion Show as media last Friday. As an avid thrifter, I had been looking forward to the show and couldn't wait to see what it was all about and trust, it was a wonderful experience. If you've never heard of the show, designers create original ensembles with clothing donated to Triad Goodwill. Not only do you get to enjoy a fabulous show, but you also get to shop and support a worthy cause. All proceeds from the night’s festivities benefit those who experience barriers in employment and job training within our community.
Shoes are an important part of my life. I love a great shoe and as a woman with wide feet, great shoes are not the easiest thing to find. When I do find them, I tend to wear them until they are falling apart. What I never knew though is that there are ways to possibly put life back into shoes and that shoes that you purchase that don't fit quite right, may be able to be fit just for you. I found all of this out when I started visiting the shoe repair store.
